Before My Hair Loss

Receding hairline and thinning hair.

Barely 2 years ago, these 2 phrases seemed so foreign to me.

It was understandable. As a 22 year old man, I was young, virile and full of vigor. A crown of thick, medium-curly hair was something I'd always had and been proud of.

Back then, my daily concerns centered on typical issues that modern men in their 20s care about: further education, building a career, girls & sex, fashion, trends, investments.

If there was anything related to "hair", my concerns were which wax/gel/clay would be better to style my hair with; changing my hairstyle; finding a better hairstylist who would give me a better desired hairstyle; which colour to dye my hair with.

Hair was always something I had. And not just in small amounts, but in thick abundance. Whenever I cut my hair, it would rapidly grow back within a month and going to the barber was a bi-monthly affair.

But sooner did I know that in the immediate months and years to come, this very thing I'd hitherto taken for granted, would emerge to become the most pressing concern. I was going to experience the most traumatic thing that could beset any appearance-conscious young man incessant, excessive hair loss.

Hair Loss Onset

It's been exactly 1 and a half years since I started to experience excessive, daily hair loss. For the past 18 months, there's not been a single day I wake up, that I don't find lots of my short hair strands on my pillow or bed. Dozens of hair strands covering the desk that I read and study at, are also a common sight. Whenever I eat, I've also to take additional care in ensuring that my dropping hair won't fall into the food too.

What started out as hair loss at the front and sides in the initial months has blown into a combination of thinning and hair receding.

Turning to Hair Loss Cures And Solutions

Throughout this period, I've turned to both Western and Chinese cures for hair loss, in desperate attempts to stop the neverending hairloss. I've forked out thousands of dollars in getting treatment from reputable hair loss experts. I've tried different hair sprays to stop & regrow my hair. I've watched my diet. I've changed my sleep patterns. I've even subjected myself to acupuncture to stop my hair loss.

(N.B: I will further elaborate on each, in individual articles soon)

Despite resorting to a number of measures, the battle to stop excessive continual hair loss is still ongoing.Within 1.5 years,
  1. My hair has receded about 1.5 to 2 inches at both sides & at the top of my head.
  2. In addition, my hair has overall severely thinned.
  3. The bald patch at the back of my head has become bigger and bigger
The only thing I can comfort myself with is that I'd originally had very very thick hair. And despite the excessive hair loss, I still have enough to conceal it (by using the back hair to cover the front). However as the hair loss still continues without ceasing, it'd probably be a matter of time, I'd estimate 2-3 years more before I lose everything.
